Hi Isabella. Still processing yesterday’s session at Spear but it was certainly one of the richest experiences I’ve had for a long time. It was very humbling meeting with a group of 16-24 year olds who were working so hard to turn their lives around and the programme itself was well thought through and professionally organised. There was a really interesting mix of other volunteers from all sorts of backgrounds all coming together to offer skills they’d acquired in the workplace for free to the charity which went a long way towards restoring my faith in humanity. We made a point of thanking Chile and the other organisers at the end of the session but please feedback how inspirational their work is. I hope myself, Matt and Abdullah were of some use. I don’t have a suggestion for the programme organisers beyond “keep doing what you do” but one suggestion for CBAM would be to up the number of volunteer days to something like 6 a year so interested staff could do an afternoon at Spear or similar organisations a month. This was my first experience of volunteering through CBAM and I’d jump at the chance to get involved again. Thank you for the opportunity.

I’m relatively new on the Charity Committee but I’m really keen to get more of us volunteering (our London numbers are very low) so I will be on the search for volunteering opportunities throughout the year. I really love what the Spear Programme are doing, so I’m keen to see if I can get CBAM more involved.

There are times – such as scripting the retrieval of Active Directory information for Uma, who really should be able do this sort of thing himself – where I get sense of being a Go To Guy. GW approached me yesterday, lingered girlishly, talked house renovations and seemed relieved when I said I’d step in to do this. Then again, five minutes prior I was watching impotently as CR troubleshooted some BNY bollocks. So swings and roundabouts.

I’ve abandoned the Full Horror listener service and built a local blog updater. I mainly only need it in the house anyway, being out and about is not conducive to blogging and I can always just splurge into Notepad for upload on return home.

Meanwhile some idiot sales director is in The Sun blacked up as Will Smith for some belated Christmas party. Emails flew throughout the day reminding staff of discrimination policies etc. which is all well and good but shutting the gate after the blacked up horse has bolted and clearly a damage limitation exercise. End of that guys career though.

Right then, freedom for the weekend. Am running a bath, have “The Bureau” and “Machine Vendetta” to wallow in. I also have too much grub but…I’ll revisit the diet. Probably try exercise plus the diet. It’s been a strange week, news of a member of staff dropping dead, the success of my events and more to the point the clock ticking down to Christmas. Paul A has suggested the 18th as a social which I’ve said yes to. Better than impromptu sort of thing rather than anything too mad and I really do have to show my face on occasion. Plus it’s a nice little piton 48 hours away from end of term.

Now I’ve come down a bit I’m thinking the Spear thing might be like Crisis, a one-off, tourist type venture. I’d be interested in doing it again though in the New Year, I’ll have x2 half days of volunteering to take so why not? Maybe even sync it up with the start of a long weekend or something.

I Googled Chile. So far out of my league it is laughable. I’m sure if I was thin I’d pull more often or at least not be repellant on sight. Quite difficult getting past that.
